2022 Software testing trends to look out for
Digital transformation seems to know no bounds, bringing huge changes in technology. As such, IT organisations must be constantly seeking to innovate. Today we look at 2022 Software testing trends to try to help you stay one step ahead of the game.
DevOps and agile
The demand for a quick turnaround in software development is such that more organisations are now embracing DevOps. This seeks to deploy rules, processes, practices and tools to shorten the time from development to delivery and operation.
Agile is also more embraced now, due to rapidly changing requirements. This iterative approach to project management and software development helps to deliver value with less large issues. Agile teams deliver work in smaller and more consumable increments. This then means that the issues found are fixed more efficiently. Agile has 4 basic principles:
- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan.
Adopting both DevOps and agile has been growing over the last 5 years and will continue to do so.
Software testing automation
This is an essential element within the DevOps process. Therefore, software testing teams cannot ignore it. Test automation is actually an important bottleneck of DevOps, so we therefore believe the majority of regression testing should be automated. With currently less than 20% of testing automated, there is then a huge opportunity for more organisations to adopt it.
Artificial intelligence in testing
Advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) mean that there are many new opportunities to apply AI/ML in software testing. This has already begun but it is very much still in the early stages. We therefore believe that more organisations be able to optimise testing practices in AI/ML.
