Testing is critical

The testing ecosystem

Testing is a highly complex discipline which requires expertise and a robust, dedicated approach. Standard testing and validation must be conducted and this includes the following:

Functional testing

• The testing of components and systems
• Integration testing is then used to test the integration between components and different parts of the system.

Non-functional testing

• Security testing is an essential element here. Rigorous testing is undertaken to check for vulnerabilities. How robust is authorisation? Does the system protect data, can it ward off malicious attacks?
• Performance testing is also vital. Speed is critical as performance and latency varies due to network and transaction size. Performance testing tests the speed of performance with a given workload. It is used to check whether or not the desired criteria is met and ultimately if the application is production-ready.
