Outsourced software testing services – who do you opt for?
If you are reading this article, the chances are you have an interest in testing. Testers will probably know of the value outsourced software testing services can bring to an organisation. Those aspiring to enter the world of testing will hopefully gain encouragement from this piece. If you are contemplating adding testing to your work flow, then it should give you all the confidence you need to push on.
5 Things to consider when choosing an outsourced software testing services partner
Let’s assume you have answered the question, ‘is software testing necessary?‘, with a ‘yes’. What are the next steps?
- Conduct a thorough ITT process
Assemble a list of potential vendors and a list of key questions. In our experience, it is very easy to make promises that cannot be kept. For example, how will the vendor deliver their services? Will they subcontract any aspects? Will your team need to be involved? We always attempt to manage expectations from the get-go.
- Make sure the potential vendor knows your industry
At eTestware we know insurance, cruise, travel and healthcare better than most. If you are within those verticals, for example, we would hope to make your ITT shortlist. Any company on that list should ideally know those verticals inside-out in order to deliver on-time. That is not to say that software testers with no knowledge of them would fail. They would almost certainly struggle to avoid costly delays, however.
- Look at vendors with niche teams
There are many software testing companies with huge teams. Will you need access to hundreds of testers though? Or would it be better to bring in software testing experts with smaller, more qualified and experienced test teams?
- Insist upon a detailed SLA
The service level agreement offers protection. It ensures a detailed summary of the project specifications, with deadlines for the testing phases. Without an SLA, ad hoc actions can seep in through a lack of preparation. Remember; fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
- Make sure that communication is a priority
Poor communication can affect productivity, so it is essential that you establish how you will communicate. Find out which communication platforms will be used and the processes for delivering feedback. All communication, whether verbal or written, must be clear and easy to understand.
