Software testing trends to watch out for in 2023
Last week we looked back at 2022, so this week we’ve decided to look forwards. We sat with the team to find out what they thought this year would bring. More specifically, we went through some software testing trends that are likely to continue in 2023.
There will be an increased use of automation. Automation tools and techniques will continue to be used more extensively in software testing, as they can speed up the testing process and improve test coverage.
Shift-left testing will be deployed to a greater extent, too. There is a growing trend towards performing testing earlier in the software development life cycle. Known as “shift-left testing”, this approach aims to identify and fix defects as early as possible. This can help to reduce costs and improve the overall quality of the software.
Cloud-based testing will grow with the increasing adoption of cloud-based infrastructure and services. More companies will use cloud-based testing platforms and environments. This will enable them to run tests on a wide range of platforms and devices, and to take advantage of the scalability and flexibility offered by the cloud.
AI-driven testing is going to be more prominent. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) will almost certainly play a bigger role in software testing. AI-driven testing can help improve test coverage, reduce costs and improve the overall testing process.
Performance testing will become increasingly important as well. Companies must look to ensure that their software can handle high volumes of users and data.
Finally, security testing will continue to be critical for identifying and fixing vulnerabilities in software. This is particularly important as the number and sophistication of cyber threats continue to grow.
